Abstract:
Why do some data and AI projects thrive and make significant impact? And why do some data and AI projects struggle to deliver impact? Besides focusing on the technology that is used to power Data and AI projects, this talk invites participants to think deeply about the purpose of data and AI projects, putting people at the center of it. Using lessons learned from working with some of the top companies in the world, the talk provides a practitioner's perspective on leading successful outcomes with practical guidance.

Bio:
Dr. Tok Wee Hyong is the Director of Product Management at Microsoft. He is a seasoned Data and AI leader with a proven track record of running a multi-million dollar business, and growing it to sustained industry leadership positions. He deeply believes in building enduring and empowered teams and is responsible for managing global and multi-disciplinary teams of product managers, engineers and data scientists through his career at Microsoft. He has co-authored more than 10 Data and AI books, including "Practical Weak Supervision", "Practical Automated Machine Learning", "Deep Learning on Azure", and others. In addition, he is a tech visionary with a unique background that spans across product management, machine learning/deep learning and working on complex engagements with customers. Prior to his current role, Wee Hyong was Head of AI Labs, where he led a global team of data scientists to deliver cutting-edge ML/AI solutions from customers spanning different industries. Wee Hyong led AI strategy and innovation, and co-founded the AI for Earth Engineering and Data science team, which seeded the foundation for many of the AI for Earth initiatives in solving some of the world toughest sustainability challenges using AI/ML.
