Deep Learning and Its Applications in IS Research

ABSTRACT:

Artificial intelligence and deep learning techniques have become very popular in recent years. Given the power of neural network and deep learning, researchers in information systems start to adopt this method in their research design and empirical analysis. As a first step to understand deep learning and its applications, in this teaching seminar, I will introduce the key concepts in neural networks and the typical neural network models for deep learning. Then I will discuss the current usage and potential direction of deep learning in IS research. The objective of this seminar is to introduce the basics of deep learning and demonstrate its potential in IS research.
