ABSTRACT:

Health information technologies (HIT), such as CPOE, EMR/EHR and CDSS, have been widely employed to improve healthcare efficiency and effectiveness. At the same time, however, the implementation of these HIT also led to unanticipated consequences, which may harm healthcare performance. To demonstrate the dark side of HIT, this seminar will introduce several important HIT used by the doctors, and discuss the new problems generated by HIT particularly from a perspective of the doctors. At the end, I will illustrate several technological advances in handling these issues.
