Abstract:

This seminar will present an overview of the different user research methods applicable to MIR research. It will cover several commonly used methods in social science research (e.g., interviews, focus groups, written/audio journals, task-based experiments, discuss the suitability of each method for different research projects, and the strengths and weaknesses of each method.

This seminar is a condensed version of a tutorial presented at ISMIR 2017 (Suzhou, China).


Biodata:

Sally Jo Cunningham is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Waikato University (Hamilton, New Zealand). Her research focuses on information behaviour and digital libraries: how people describe and locate the information (text, images, video, music, etc.) that they need and then how we as technologists can create digital information systems that are usable and accessible.
