Abstract:
HTTP adaptive streaming (HAS) has become the technology of choice for delivering video content over the Internet. In the first part of the talk, we first describe the existing and emerging HAS service models along with all the workflows for content generation, distribution and consumption, then show that when multiple HAS clients share a network bottleneck, bad things happen. In the second part, we present a number of network-based solution approaches to future directions in this space.
Biodata:
Ali C. Begen recently joined the computer science department at Ozyegin University. Previously, he was a research and development engineer at Cisco, where he has architected, designed and developed algorithms, protocols, products and solutions in the service provider and enterprise video domains. Currently, in addition to teaching and research, he provides consulting services to industrial, legal, and academic institutions. Begen has a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Georgia Tech. He is a senior member of IEEE and the ACM.
