Abstract:

There is ample literature reporting on the importance and benefits of music for both children and adults. On the other hand, electroencephalogram (EEG) systems provide useful information about the brain activity of humans and are becoming increasingly available outside the medical domain. In this talk, I will present some of our recent projects combining music, technology and EEG information to provide music-enhanced therapies for several medical conditions such as depression, autism, and motor disabilities.


Biodata:

PhD, MSc, BSc. Tenured Associate Professor and Leader of the Music and Machine Learning Lab at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. BSc in Mathematics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and MSc and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bristol, UK. For four years, he was a Fellow in the National University of Singapore. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Mining and their application to cognition, music technology, creative processes, and brain-computer Interfaces. He has published more than 100 research articles in peer-reviewed international Journals and Conferences. He currently act as chair and program committee member for several music, artificial intelligence and machine learning related conferences, and as a reviewer for several international journals. He has given invited seminars across Europe, Asia and America.
